A 1930's dining room

This is a small job I did after another water damage problem. The room had been decorated with a sponge patina and then animated with a 1930’s stencil by Beatrice (who I used to work for) a few years ago.




This wall was the only one damaged so after priming, repairing the damaged area with plaster and repainting the entire wall a light ocher yellow, I found the right color, intensity and graphics for the patina and applied it with a sponge. It was important to duplicate the patina exactly as the other walls were in perfect condition. As I hadn’t originally done this job, it was more difficult to copy.



I then traced the stencil and cut it out of polyester film with an x-acto knife. I carefully measured the distances between the image, marked the wall lightly with a pencil and applied the stencil; first with ochre yellow, then ocher red. I patched the damaged part of the ceiling and the room was like new. A 1930’s retro-new! My passage there was invisible.

Voici un petit chantier que j’ai fait après un dégât des eaux. Les murs avaient été décorés d’une patine à l’éponge, puis un pochoir (fait maison par Béatrice) du style des années 30 a été appliqué.

Il n’y avait qu’un mur abimé. Après l’impression, les enduits et 2 couches de peinture de fond (couleur ocre jaune clair), j’ai refait la patine à l’identique. (Il faut jouer avec les teintes, l’épaisseur de l’application et le graphisme de la patine pour que ça soit bien comme avant !) Comme je n’avais pas réalisé le décor original, je l’ai trouvé plus difficile à dupliquer.
J’ai dû aussi retracer et recouper le pochoir. Ensuite j’ai mesuré les distances entre chaque pochoir pour pouvoir faire pareil. J’ai marqué la patine légèrement avec un crayon, puis j’ai fait le pochoir, d’abord avec de l’ocre jaune et au-dessus, de l’ocre rouge. J’ai rebouché le plafond et la pièce était comme neuve, une retro neuve. Mon passage était invisible !
